    TikTok vs Instagram


Similarities

Differences

Both TikTok and Instagram are highly visual platforms that rely on short-form video and imagery to capture audience attention. They are widely used in the music industry to promote releases, build artist identity, and engage directly with fans through likes, comments, and sharing features. Both platforms also allow content to reach large audiences quickly through algorithm-driven feeds, making them effective tools for marketing a music video.

TikTok is more trend-driven and informal, with content often feeling spontaneous and centred around challenges or viral sounds, whereas Instagram usually has a more curated and polished aesthetic that supports consistent branding. TikTok focuses almost entirely on video discovery and rapid visibility, while Instagram supports a wider range of content formats such as static images and stories, making it more suitable for showcasing digipaks, posters, and campaign visuals.



  • My chosen products


    I would like to create a digipak for the album release alongside an official Instagram page for the artist.

    The digipak would allow me to design visual branding, including the cover, inside panels, and track list, ensuring it reflects the same style as the music video.

    The Instagram page would work as a promotional platform where I can share visuals from the digipak, behind-the-scenes content, and promotional posts, helping to build the artist’s identity and engage the target audience. Together, these products would create a consistent campaign across print and digital media, reinforcing the overall brand image.




  • Features I would not want


I would avoid very busy visuals or too much going on, because the music video already has movement and action, so the digipak and Instagram should feel simpler and more focused.

I would also avoid telling too much of the story in the images, since the narrative will mainly be shown in the music video. Finally, I wouldn’t include a lot of text, so the designs stay clean and easy to look at.




  • Most Suitable Social Media Platform


For me, Instagram would be the most suitable platform because it makes it easy to keep a consistent visual style across posts using the grid layout.

I can share the music video, digipak, and promotional images in one place while also interacting with the audience through comments, stories, and reels, which helps build a stronger connection with fans.
