Last week I travelled to New York City and honestly, it blew my mind. The streets, the lights, the crazy energy — I didn’t expect to love the city so much and feel like I finally belong somewhere . While I was walking around I kept thinking about my media studies project and how my original idea suddenly felt kind of boring compared to everything I was seeing.
Most of the time I had the playlist “House of Balloons” by The Weeknd blasting in my headphones . I’ve loved that album for ages, but in New York it just hit different — like the soundtrack to my trip.
One day I booked a ticket to SUMMIT One Vanderbilt. Everyone talks about the insane views up there so i decided to see them myself as well. From all the beautiful experiences there, the part that truly stuck with me was the mirrored room full of floating balloons. It was so dreamy, almost like stepping inside a music video.
That’s where I realized I could combine this trip with my project. So now my plan was to design a concert-style poster, using one of my own photos from that balloon room as the background, wanting to capture not just the views hut also the atmosphere and memories that i made there.
Sometimes ideas just come out of nowhere — for me it was New York, The Weeknd, and a room full of balloons that set everything off this time.
Here are some of my favourite pictures taken in New York and some which i am planning to use as my inspiration:
