Postmodern Parody Meme

For this postmodern media piece, I created a meme using a famous Friends scene where Rachel, Phoebe and Monica are sitting on the couch in their wedding dresses, drinking and watching TV. I wanted to make a humorous commentary on modern life: how sometimes we dress up or try to look fancy, but our plans are actually very casual, like binge-watching TikTok.



What steps I followed:


  1. I found the screenshot of the three friends in their wedding dresses sitting on the couch.


  2. I added the caption: “When you have a fancy dress code but only plan to binge TikTok.”


  3. I uploaded the image to Canva, added the text in bold, readable font, and positioned it at the top and bottom so it didn’t block the faces.


  4. I saved it as a PNG image, keeping it clear and easy to read.




This piece uses parody, one of the traits of postmodern media, because it references a well-known show and humorously exaggerates a situation we can all relate to.
