Creating My Magazine Masthead – Global Lens
1. Choosing the Name
Because my magazine explores how media influences international relations, I wanted a title that feels both global and observant. After brainstorming combinations like Worldview, Diplomatic Dispatch, Soft Power, I chose:
GLOBAL LENS Media & Diplomacy Magazine
This name suggests looking at the world through a “lens,” highlighting the role of media in shaping our view of diplomacy and global affairs. It’s short, memorable, and serious enough to stand next to established titles, while still feeling fresh.
2. Developing the Style
I experimented with fonts, colours and layouts on Canva until I found a balance between authority and modernity:
Font – a tall, elegant serif for “Global Lens” gives it a journalistic credibility.
Accent – a clean sans-serif tagline “Media & Diplomacy Magazine” keeps it contemporary.
Colour palette – deep navy for trust and professionalism; soft pastel pink for creativity and a modern student voice.
3. Designing the Logo
The final logo combines the letters G and L into a subtle lens shape in the background. This icon visually reinforces the concept of perspective and observation. I curved the tagline underneath to echo the shape of a globe and to differentiate it from the main title.

4. Testing & Refining
I placed the masthead on mock-ups of magazine covers to ensure:
it remains legible over photography
it still looks recognisable if partially covered by a model’s head (like real news-stand covers)
it scales down well for social media and digital versions.
5. Reflection
This masthead successfully conveys serious global content with a fresh design edge. It sets the tone for the magazine’s mix of journalism, analysis and media critique. The pastel pink accent signals that even though the subject is serious, the magazine speaks with a new generation voice.
